Erich Goetzel
MD, MA, LAc, IFMCP
was born and raised in Austria. He worked as a licensed family physician in Vienna before moving to New York City in 1997 where he completed a second residency training in Psychiatry at Einstein’s Montefiore Medical Center and studied Interpersonal Psychoanalysis at the William Alanson White Institute. He then moved on to working at Bellevue Hospital and several HIV clinics as a Consultation Liaison Psychiatrist. During the events of 9/11, he was part of the disaster relief and early intervention initative. In 2002, he moved to Boston to help establish Massachusetts’ first Department of Mental Health-funded Progressive Assertive Community Treatment Programs and other outreach programs. In this function, he has served the severely mentally ill patient population of Massachusetts for over 20 years, and has led multiple outreach & community treatment efforts. In 2010, he was appointed Medical Director of Eliot Community Human Services INC, one of Massachusetts’ largest Psychiatric non-profit organization serving over 30,000 clients. In 2016, he became their Chief Medical Officer.
Since 2009, Dr. Goetzel has worked to incorporate Acupuncture, Functional and Lifestyle Medicine into the treatments of psychiatric disorders. In Spring 2011, he graduated from the New England School of Acupuncture (NESA). During fall of that same year, he founded My Health 101, a clinic specialized in providing Integrative Psychiatry, Acupuncture and the new treatment modality of Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS). In 2013, Dr. Goetzel was among the first officially recognized pioneers and graduates of the Institute for Functional Medicine (IFM) Certification Program. Since 2016, Dr. Goetzel has been teaching regularly to fellow professionals, including in his role as facilitator at IFM’s “Applying Functional Medicine in Clinical Practice” (AFMCP) five-day foundation course. In June 2017, Dr. Goetzel was one of the invited speakers of IFM’s AIC (Annual International Conference) and gave a presentation on the integration of TMS into a Functional Psychiatry Practice: “The Dynamic Brain, Revealing the Potential of Neuroplasticity to Reverse Neurodegeneration.”
In 2018, Dr. Goetzel funded Massachusetts’ first ReCODE Clinic (Reversing Cognitive Decline with Functional Medicine and the Bredesen Protocol). At this time, this still remains the only clinic in our area offering such specialized approach and treatment options for clients either directly affected by a Neurocognitive disorder or concerned about a potential family history of Neurodegenerative Disease.
After years working successfully with Ketamine, Dr. Goetzel established Massachusetts’ first Spravato clinic at a non-university non-profit DPH clinic in Concord, MA.
