AN EFFECTIVE, SAFE THERAPY FOR TREATMENT RESISTANT DEPRESSION

Brainsway Deep TMS is an advanced depression treatment which can help drug-resistant depression patients. With Deep TMS, people who have been suffering from long-standing depression, and from side effects of medications, can find new hope.

Deep TMS is an effective, non-invasive treatment, based on magnetic stimulation of areas in the brain which cause depression. By stimulating these areas, the treatment restores them to their normal functioning.

Our depression treatment does not entail medication intake, nor does it require hospitalization or anesthesia. This means that it does not generate the systemic side effects associated with medications, such as insomnia or weight changes, and does not entail the risk of anesthesia such as memory loss and cognitive side effects.

Brainsway Deep TMS is easy on the patient, as it integrates into the patients’ lifestyle. Treatments are administered over 4-6 weeks, with just brief 20-minute sessions given 5 times a week – the shortest TMS therapy sessions available. After the depression treatment, patients can drive themselves home and resume their routine.

Brainsway Deep TMS depression treatment was tested in a multi-center study for treating major depressive disorder patients who had already used antidepressants without improving. In this study, which included 230 patients, Deep TMS brought significant improvement to patients. Following this study, the FDA cleared Brainsway Deep TMS for the treatment of depression patients who did not benefit from any number of previous medication treatments.

In an 18-week study, after 4 weeks of Brainsway Deep TMS depression treatment, the patients’ depressive symptoms decreased and then held steady throughout the study. The procedure was generally well tolerated and no adverse events were reported. The results suggest that Deep TMS follow-up treatment can help maintain an antidepressant effect for 18 weeks, following 4 weeks of acute treatment.

Furthermore, Brainsway Deep TMS depression treatment was studied at McGill University in Canada for treating drug depression. Response (an improvement of at least 50% in depression related symptoms) and remission (depressive symptoms rated lower than 10 on the HDRS scale) were an impressive 70.6 and 41.2%, respectively. Depression, anxiety ratings and quality of life ratings improved as well. According to the study, Deep TMS decreases depressive and anxious symptoms in cases of severe, treatment resistant depression. Furthermore, Deep TMS treatment was not associated with serious adverse events.

How it Works

The Shortest TMS Sessions Available Today

Brainsway Deep TMS depression treatment offers the shortest TMS sessions available today. Sessions are just 20 minutes long – almost half the time of other TMS sessions (typically 37 minutes). This allows you to be in and out of the clinic in just 30 minutes, returning to your work, exercise or whatever your routine includes.

Brainsway Deep TMS is administered by a helmet containing a specially made coil which stimulates areas in the brain responsible for depression. The stimulation is performed using brief magnetic pulses at an intensity similar to that of MRI technology. In each session, you will be comfortably seated in a chair. The padded helmet will be placed over your head, and it will generate the magnetic pulses. You will feel and hear a tapping sound, and will be provided with protective earplugs that diminish them. During the depression treatment, you will remain alert and awake, and can communicate with your caregiver as needed.

After the depression treatment, you can immediately return to your daily routine, including driving.
